About

Stories are the one sure way I know to touch the heart and change the world.

–Dorothy Allison, author

Let’s pour a fine bourbon and I’ll tell you a good story. I’m a western Kentucky girl now happily residing in the alluring Blue Ridge Mountains, specifically in the vibrant, artsy city of Asheville, North Carolina, where I’ve lived since 2000. I have a background in fine art as well as marketing and a boundless thirst for exploring the world—its people, places, and all its cultural curiosities. While I’ve traveled across many continents, I also enjoy savoring the beauty, thrills, flavors, and fascinating stories right here in Southern Appalachia. Though above all my interests, I am first and foremost a communicator. I am a writer, a storyteller, and an editor. A well-told narrative has the power to influence, inspire, and connect, and it’s what I love about writing.

I have 15+ years of experience as a published writer and editor, most recently serving six years as editor-in-chief of WNC magazine, a nationally distributed lifestyle publication covering Western North Carolina. I’ve curated and overseen the production of dozens of issues and thousands of articles covering life in Western North Carolina, from its vibrant farm-to-table scene to Appalachian history to outdoor adventures. As a writer, I’ve written about everything from arts and culture, travel and outdoors to food, farming, architecture, style, people, and more.

Beyond editorial, as a freelance content creator, copywriter, and editor I’ve helped many businesses and nonprofits hone and spread their message by creating engaging, SEO-driven website copy, marketing and social media messaging, slogans and branded taglines, newsletters, blogs, press releases, and more. I love the creative brainstorming process behind a slogan or tagline as much as the challenge of creating compelling, original copy that helps a client tell their story and gets results. Ultimately, it boils down to crisp writing that sparks initiative.

Thanks for visiting my website. I welcome you to browse my writing samples and services, say hi on social media, and if I can be of assistance, I’d love to connect (perhaps over my favorite spirit, with a side of laughter).
